The Sweet Taste of Bitterness

In the name of God, all mighty, all knowledgeable.

Mary Beth was a good person. Mary Beth was raised a Christian, but turned faithless in her early adulthood years. Mary Beth had had her third miscarriage last month. Mary Beth had had a fight with her husband. Mary Beth lost her husband when, after the fight, he drove away in rage, and got in a car crash- and died. Mary Beth had one last seldom tear strolling in gentle irony over her cheeks. Mary Beth put a gun to her head. Mary Beth pulled the trigger. Mary Beth is dead.”

Yes, that story is made up. But is it so farfetched? Pull up a western news paper this week and I’ll bet you everything that you’ll find a similar story.

You’re probably wondering, why suicide again? Has the world emptied itself from all other subjects? Well, yet again, I am not here to discuss death; I’m here to discuss life.

A few days ago I received a letter from a certain university that I have applied to in hope that I get accepted. It was a dream of mine. The letter, however, was a letter of disappointment. I’m not here to reflect on a personal experience. I simply want to exemplify my point.

We are all at one stage of out life or another faced with some hardships. Maybe they have to do with family, maybe friends, maybe school, maybe your whole life collapsing underneath your feet.

It is the way we handle hardships that define us as humans. Some cry, some despair, some run away, and some… well.. are like Mary Beth.

And yet there a few, very few, people who when faced with disappointment and sorrow simply look up to the heavens, smile, and say “This is as God had intended. No complaints.”

Yes, it is those who taste sweetness in the most bitter of times. They realize that they all have a destiny. And if one is good and true, God will draw out a path of happiness for them; He foresees that future, and we are blinded by the present. One has to believe that when hardship is thrown at their faces; it is because that has to happen for them to breathe joy in the end. Without that belief, the belief that there is a greater map drawn out for each of us, one would grief in despair.

And in the belief of fate and destiny, comes true strength. The strength to overcome any problem. The strength to smile at life. The strength to not let disappointment affect you. The strength to live without fear of failure.

I always say… A true man is not a man who never falls. A true man is a man who gets up quickly when he falls.

Find your faith. Find your strength.

Peace out.
